Gopher trap cleaning

Bringing out my traps some farmers are requiting me to take care of there problem. My traps are preety rusty and full of dirt. was wondering what to use to clean them up? Do the gophers smeel the cleaner products?

Some WD-40 has worked just fine for me in the past.

Have had no problems with the smell as far as them not getting caught, I have cleaned traps before and caught gophers with them the same day so, I dont believe it has anything to do much with smell.

I have found the best is to break out the steel brush and some elbow grease. After you have removed most of the rust and the dirt from the traps boil them up in logwood crystals. The logwood crystals dye your traps brown or black and protect them from the elements. You can also use some stuff called speed black. Just mix a can of speed black in with a gal. of gas or what ever the mix is on the can and hang and let air dry for a bit. The mix works pretty well.

Thats the way to go is that trap dye...never have problems with them again, actually for the stuff to work and stick you need rust on them first i found that out the hard way...cheap and doesnt smell a bit...

Maybe this has been asked before, but what are townships in your area paying for bounty on gophers.

Do they want tails? feet?

It would interesting to hear what the prices are across the state. Most townships around here are $2.00 per gopher. And most if not all take feet now.

Ive gotten 52 in 4 days of trapping. Cant stop now !!

Wag sounds like your a pro. i just spray them with wd-40 and snap them off once. got 102 in a week last year. probly going to surpass that easily this year being a broke my ankle and got the next month or so off now. have to give me a call sometime Wag, hows work going?? got nicks spot and was supposed to start last week but now am laid up. so good luck the rest of the year. and we get 2 bucks hear for the feet. so a buck a foot.

I thought I got most of those varmints last year. but I was wrong. There is multiple gophers to be had everywhere you look.
