Macbride 3/26

Recommended Posts

I caught a couple crappie, a few of the dwarf bluegills the lake is known for, and a small bass shore-fishing very shallow water on Lake Macbride this past Thursday. Thinking the warm days and sun would stimulate the fish, I took my boat out there yesterday.

I was a little surprised to mark few fish, and catch none, in the very shallow mud-bottomed water east of the causeway where I found fish two days earlier. As of Sunday afternoon, the surface temps there were between 45 and 46 degrees, with deeper water on the north arm registering at 42-43 degrees. During my tour around the lake, I marked a lot of fish holding over deeper structure, especially drop-offs, although I couldn't get those to bite, whatever they were. It seems just a little early for the fish to be leaving the really shallow warm water on Macbride for their spring hangouts, but it looks like they are doing just that.
