Long Legged Lake (Resort)

Recommended Posts

I am taking a trip to long legged lake in Canada and was wondering if anyone knew how the roads are up there. I am coming from central Minnesota and a bunch of us guys are looking to take a charter bus down, are the roads to the lake or resorts good enough for the bus or are there other means of transportation once we get up there. Well, all of your main Canadian "highways" are fairly maintained well. To get to Long Legged Lake you take Highway 502, then the Trans Canadian for awhile, then the Red Lake Highway, those are all maintained well.

However, To get to Long Legged Lake I think you have to travel west at some point near Ear Falls, I think at this point you have to do at least some driving on Gravel Roads, because the resort is a boat-in only resort I believe ( it was boat-in only at least a few years back, I am assuming it still has to be )? That is where traveling by Bus may be near impossible, although someone here might know for sure I am pretty much positive that is what you would encounter.

MuskyBrian is correct. The roads to Ear Falls are ok (for Canada). The road from Ear Falls in on the other hand is absolutely terrible. It's basically a logging road with minimal maintance so often parts of it are washed out. It's been a few years so I can't say it hasn't changed?

I'm not trying to discourage you by any means. Even though the trip there is tough, Long Legged is one of the best fisheries in Canada in my opinion. Have a blast!!

I've always wanted to go up there, I believe it has the Province record Tiger Musky possibly??

The problem is that resort is outrageously priced, the facilities and equipment they have there simply don't match the prices they ask for. However, seeing as they are the only resort on the lake they can get away with it laugh.gif

Took a day off of Lac Seaul Walleye and went to long legged lake for a day July of 05. Just south of Ear Falls you turn left --west and go 50 miles down a maintained logging road

It's up down hilly and DUSTY Couple o' low spots but a bus would make it 18 wheel loggong trucks do it about 40 MPH.

The prob could be you need to head south again for about a mile to the access (Total Goat trail) You'd have to park a bus on the logging road and huff it in to the access.

Cool lake though it's a chain of a few lakes. There are a few river/ channel spot's that are fast and rough.

You change elevation a good few feet. Up and down hills in a boat That's a trip! Bring at least 2 spare props.

as for the fishing we got 2 ski a 40 and 43---couple huge fish follows in 6 hours. All kidding aside first time ski fishing We'll be back.

Long Legged Lake - One of te best I have fished in Canada.

I live in Alabama, but have been going to Long Legged every year for the past 15 years. My brother-in-law is a guide there at the old Stork Lake Lodge, I have also guided on the Lake when they were short handed some years back. Talk about "Funny" Guys fly in to the camp from all over the US wake up ready to go fishing and looking for the Guide (Canadian Guide) Then some one tells them that some guy who lives in Gator Country is going to guide them for the day. They all look at each other - Then look at me like somebody has lost their minds.Ha! Then they all said what the Hell - lets see if Gator knows what he's doing. Short of the story - we all had a great day fishing and every year or so I see one of the guys while i'm there and we take a day to fish. Some of the best walleye fishing you can ask for and if your lucky you might catch the Pike or Musky of a lifetime. I have fished alot of lakes up in the North over the past 15 years - but I go to Long Legged every year looking for that musky that got away the first year I fished the lake. I'm Hooked. There are a few pictures at the lodge of some really large musky and I will show you a Pike I hooked up with 5 years back 49.5L& 29.7G.around 48 lbs.One of the largest Pikes I have ever seen,Fat Butter ball he was,(I have seen a picture of one 70" that come out of Manitoba) But the Musky that got away - had my kees knocking, He was b--i--g. Still have the lure on the wall in my office -teeth marks and all. I got it there so I can see it every day. I relase all fish back into the lake - I wonder some times how big that Pike may be by now. He was one big pike then. any-way There are two main parts to the lake: North and South. The south side great Walleye, Pike and Musky fishing. The north side has a bonus if you like Lake Trout. There are places there that are over 100 feet deep. There are some big lake Trout as well. If the water is Low you will have problems getting from one side to the other. It has been so low a few times that we had to have boats on both sides, because you could not get through the pass. What more can I say? I guess it is the reason I keep going back year after year. The roads to Ear Falls are very good Hwy.105, then you take 804, also a good road, at the end of 804 you will come to a y in the road, stay to your right. This will be Long Legged Road - It is in bad shape. They were logging there a few years back and did keep the road up a bit, but all logging has stopped in that part of the country and the roads have just been abandoned.

My brother-in-law tells me they have got a few wash-outs and the road is just rough to travel on - but you can still make it. There is a concrete boat ramp just pass Dee/Dee Creek at Marker 54K that was built a few years back if you are bringing your own boats; are you can call Jerry Wallason - He owns both Camps on the Lake now. They were Long legged Lodge & Stork Lake lodge - But now are called North Lake & South Lake lodge. They will come pick you up at the landing if you are staying at the lodges.

His # is 1.807.727.2889 - Super nice guy. If you stay at the lodge tell them you want Harry for a guide. He knows the lake like the back of his hand. Hope to see you there. I leave on July 1 heading North. I will be fishing a few lakes in the US before I get to Canada. Then will be fishing a few lakes up and around Ear Falls, before heading down to Kenora to fish Lake of the Woods and get ready for the KBI Bass Tournament first part of Aug. I need to do some P-Fishing before Tournament day. Hope this helps you out and have a great fishing trip. smile.gif
