Stole my new motor!!

bkft

Question

Everyone make sure your motors are locked up tight. Last week, I bought a 1994 25hp Merc and it was stolen this weekend. I hadn't gotten a lock for the screws yet. The police suggested that the person(s) will probably try to sell it. Here it is: 47b4d806b3127cceb147722237ea000000161047b4d806b3127cceb14772e9b6110000001610

Sorry to hear bout your loss. I hope the insurance company covers its..

If you do need to sell the boat and trailer, i'd be happy to buy it from you since mine is still in the shop =/

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Do the lock for the screws really work or should we still worry about our smaller (non-permanently attached) motors being stolen?

After lots of research and help from this forum I bought a new 15hp merc for my boat (looks like yours). I NEVER leave it on my boat overnight. I take it off and store it in my garage. It is heavy, but not heavy enough to not move inside.

Whenever I leave my boat equipment outside, i'll attatch stranded wire hidden and hooked solid to the boat and they will have to have some serious wire cutters to free it up. And hook the wire up to an alarm so when that goes off, my lab will go crazy barking letting me know when somethings up!
Also get some of those crime watch stickers and put them in plain sight of any scumbag who has any ideas! Thats if they can read!

Investing about 20 bucks on a outboard bar lock will make the motor theftproof.

I had two of these things, one is on my 25, and the one back when I had a 8 hp Yamaha, I had to hacksaw it off since I couldnt find the key at the end of fishing season.
Lots of WD 40 and some hacksaw blades
