Possible transfer to Des Moines what fishing is available

Recommended Posts

Depends on what you will be fishing for. There are opportunites for about everything down here. There is a large lake and a few others close to Des Moines. There are many rivers if you like to fish for catfish, walleye and smallmouth. Many other smaller lakes and ponds to get familier to. Its not minnesota but it has oppertunities. If you are a hunter Iowa offers more options for Pheasants and Deer hunting opportunities. Let us know what happens and we can point you in the right direction.

I have family in Des Moines that fishes and probably the biggest difference we've determined is availability (at least with regards to large mouth fishing). In most parts of MN (espcially from the central to northern portions) you have multiple lakes with in a 15 minute drive, while in Des Moines, you could easily be more than half an hour from the closest "lakes". I put lakes in quotes becuase from what I've seen in the area it is either a resivoir (red rock or beaver creek) or more of a mud hole than what is available in MN. Don't get me wrong, still plenty of opportunities, just a little more work to find. If you're ok with rivers, small mouth fishing in the river can be fast and furious.
