Electric Auger questions

LaZyDayZ

Question

Hello, thanks for looking.

I am in the market for an electric 8 inch Auger.

I saw a guy with one but was not in the market at the time so I eally didnt pay atention to it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It would mainly be used in my shack but if they are truely reliable and able to drill many holes per charge I would consider parting with my gas auger all together.

What brands are there?

Any better than the others?

How many holes per charge?

Do some come with no battery and require a power source?

Thanks,

I believe the only one with a battery is Strikemaster, the Jiffy still requires a "car battery" or other 12v source.

I bought an electric 7" Strikemaster and my brother bought a 8" Strikmaster, I can drill on average 4-6 more holes than he can (avg of 15 vs. 10) on a charge, this is through around 24" of ice. You can also run them off your deep cycle if you wish.

Good Luck!

I just plug it in over night and it's topped off... It's a gel cell battery just like in your Vexilar or Marcum... My brother has charged his on the ice with a generator and I think it takes 3-4 hours to bring it up fully.

Good Luck!

I have a 7 inch auger that hooks up to a 12V car battery. I used it in my perm shack and just hooked it to the same battery that ran the lights. With a fully chargd 12V battery, I'm sure you could drill close to 50 holes through 12" of ice. I can't prove this, but I do know that I would run that on a single charge of that battery, I could redrill my 8 shack holes at least 5 times through 12" and even run the shack lights long enough to get the lantern and heater going.
