Panfish Lakes Near Chip Flowage

Are there any good panfish lakes around the flowage area that have earlier ice-out? I am just looking to be able to get out once or twice before the big chip goes out.

I am a catch and release guy.

Not many people like to give out much for info around the Chip I know that, I have been trying with you for about a year

I would check out a map and just pick a few smaller lakes and just try them blindly. If I am up there and have a boat with I will probably just head over to a lake or 2 and see what is biting.

Nelson - a little bit of a drive from the Chip area but worth it. You can get into some nice gills there. Namekagon is good for crappies. Did well there last year. Haven't been up there this year so I am out of the current bite loop.

I don't know how far you are willing to drive but Nelson Lake near Hayward can be a good producer for gills and nice crappies.

There goes the neighborhood I always targeted the gills on Nelson but did pull a few nice crappies over the years.

I heard about a 51" muskie that was speared the other day out on the Chip. I dont know alot about what length equals what weight but I guess it was pretty huge. Someday I hope to land one even bigger out there. I would have to assume a world record might be swimming in those waters.

This year is going to be my first trying the chip for something other than panfish so we will see how that goes. Maybe I can hook into an even bigger muskie or better yet get the gf to hook into one.

I didn't know spearing was legal on the chip. That is a huge 'skie.

Most of the time we fish the Chip anyways, but we were just looking for smaller lakes with earlier ice out.
