G.P.S. HELP

SCUMFROG

Question

I'm thinking about buying a Garmin Rhino 120 can anyone tell me if this is a good g.p.s. or if you have one how do you like it. It's my first one and I'm going to be using for fishing and hunting, and getting around out in the boondocks. Thanks for the help.

I picked up a Rino 120 a couple of years ago. I have been more than happy with it. Being my first GPS unit I didn't really know what to expect. I found it really user friendly with a lot of great features. I've used it for ice fishing, fishing in the boat, and hunting. I even use it as a speedometer in my car which has a broken speedometer. The 2-way radio is also a great feature especially if you use it with someone who also has a rino. The only negatives about it are I wish the display was a little bigger. Also, it likes to eat batteries. I ended up buying the 12volt car adapter. I run it on this the most. I also bought some rechargeable batteries and a charger. It will go for the better part of a day on the rechargeables. Overall I have been really pleased with the unit. In my case, it's done everything I could want. Hope this helps on your decision.

Yes it helps. I'll have to get the plug-in cause I'll be using it on the pontoon and I can plug it in. How about downloading lake/road maps is it easy do to or do i have to be a rocket scientist to do it?

I also bought a Rhino for my first and only GPS unit. I absolutely love it! I spent the better part of 3 months researching and demoing GPS's prior to my purchase. I really wanted the radio feature as all my friends have two radios and I liked the integration of the 120. I'm by no means am a computer guru, and I find the Rhino easy to use and download maps. The Rhino offers more than enough memory for map storage. I have the majority of the eastern half of MN from Rochester to Ely stored on mine as of right now and haven't even used half of my memory. Plus all the info on you GPS can be transfered to your PC and your GPS memory will again be free. I can't say enough good things about the Rhino 120.

Well from what you guys have said it looks like I'm making the right choice. I've talked to gander and they said the same thing you guys are, but I wanted to find out how people liked them in the real world.

The Garmin Rhino 120 is $250 at retail stores but if you buy it online at Wally world I think it is $212. You can also get the Rhino 110 which is the same as the 120 without the maps, etc.
