Do-it-yourself sinkers

I'm tossing around the idea of getting a pot and a mold. Thinking no-roll or bank.

Anyone else do their own. I think Dave posted about a "pouring party" last year, so I assume that you have done it.

Any tips/suggestions?

There were a couple pouring parties last year.

If your going to pour them yourself, its way less work to pour bank sinkers. No rolls require a pin to be pulled from each sinker.. it gets a little tedious.

I sold off my lead melting equip, but I still have friends that do have it, and do occasionaly have these *no roll parties*.

If you want to invest in your own pouring pot, be sure to get a 20 lb bottom pour furnace. Cat weights eat the lead in a hurry, and the larger pot saves on melt time. Be sure you have a well ventilated area.. these are not good fumes to breath. A hood vent if your indoors, or a garage with fans going can work ok. Do not pour outdoors because if ANY water wets in that pot, you WILL wear the lead. Other than that, a mold or 2, some gloves, and a little trial and error and you will be on your way. I can help you with anything you want to know.. I am sure there are others here that will help also.

I have a ten pound bottom feed electric lead pot and a bank sinker mold with a 2,3,4,and 5 ounce cavities. Filling all four cavities uses 14 ounces of lead so ten pounds goes pretty fast. I molded well over 50 pounds one afternoon by filling it with lead chunks and working at something else until it melted. Then mold like crazy and repeat. I was ordered a while ago at work to get rid of a five gallon pail of lead. It went to a good home. A molding party sounds fun after the weather warms a bit.

I liked making my own jigs until my filament went out on my hand held pot. I looked at some molds at Gander Mountain but did not buy any because I am sure the use of lead will soon be banned. Pretty soon we will be running our tackle boxes through magnets because I am just guessing that it will be like lead shot. None in possession.
