Heading North

Recommended Posts

Hi Tim and King. Welcome from me!

We just might get out soon---not yet though I don't think. Maybe if Bob stays North a little more!

Just got back from Leech Lake where I joined all the other wild and crazy people fishing in the Eel Pout Festival. VERY nice time. Caught 1 pout. Had lots of fun. Met some FMers. Biggest pout was 13 lbs + and one guy caught the most tonnage with 300 lbs+ (can you believe it? That's ALOT of pout). There were some real nice prizes for the first 10 places and also certain categories. Also lots of nice prizes for the drawing, which you got into if you caught a fish. Plus, going from camp to camp and seeing what people made up for their emcampments was lots of fun. Even Walker, MN is feeling the weird ice conditions - they had to make the whole event no cars and trucks on the ice due to iffy conditions and the sheer number of visitors. Last year there was like a parade of cars coming to see the encampments all day. The were worried if it could take it this year.

Plus, if you want to know, I can tell you how fun it is to sleep in your Eskimo portable all night 2 nights in a row. Had my trusty cot. Next time, heavier sleeping bag and 2 Mr. Heaters maybe I won't wake up with the shivers in the middle of the night.

Well, I'm back so there will be ice out this week. frown.gif Sorry guys. I had a ton of fun fishing the crappie mecca Redstone. Nothing big but lots of fish. I did see Mkomo there. Mark will have to get some fishing in sometime. The Little Atom stealths came to my rescue. Tuff bite but we did get 40+ crappies just yesterday.
