manitou stretch
I was on the Manitou Strech near camp Manitou last week on the 26-29 of Jan. Weather was quite warm Thurs and Fri.(39-42 degrees) so the snow cover really melted down and now there is only 2" of snow on top of the ice. There still are a few areas of slush be you can get through easily. It cooled down by Sat and the slush mostly froze over. Ice was 10" most places. 5" of clear ice and 5" of poorer milky ice. Fishing was good and limits not hard to get in 60 feet of water. The biggest suprise was no other fishermen. We did not see one other soul in 4 days which is very unusual for this time of year. Where were you all? Manitou
cedarnarrowsguy
Manitou......Thanks for the report! It looks like about the same ice as a couple weeks earlier. Did you enter 28K?... you see open water in the stretch and how far did you guys venture around? I'm planning the next trip third week of Feb. manitou stretch
CNG, We went in on the Ministry trail that enters the Manitou Stretch on South Bay. We fished the stretch and went on up past Camp Manitou by Dark Island. We did not see any open water. A friend went in this past weekend and said there was about 6" of new snow and some minor slush but the -25 on Sat night took care of that. He said ice is now 12". Good luck on your trip.
