Pulling Bigger Portables

Wow Rooney, that looks familiar, except my ski's are a lot older. I didn't use pressure treated and my ski's are only 2 feet apart instead of 3' (I'm guessing. I used 3 or 4 2x2's about 3' long and just drilled holes through the 2x4's to put the rope in.....My wife had taken the camera and hid it, so I will try to post tonight..........

I picked the skis up at the local Goodwill for $10 and decided to go with 6' skis so I had a decent base on which to build. Otherwise I used 2 2x4x10's and some 3/8"x8" bolts, 6 eye bolts so I have something to attach the tie downs to and slapped this together in about an hour and a half. The hardest part was getting the holes in the skis countersunk enough so the heads of the bolts were down in the surface of the ski enough so they didn't rub. I just drilled 3/8" holes and then used a 1/2" bit to ream the holes out so the bolt heads fit in the skis.

I've had about 350lbs of gear - my Clam 6800, a buddies 4'x8' Northlander, Auger, 2 heaters, a couple of coolers, 2 full size lawn chairs, my Marcum LX3tc, two 5 gallon pails full of stuff, minnow bucket and all of our fishing gear - piled on this thing and held down with 3 tie down straps (2 width-wise and 1 length-wise) and it pulls like a dream. I was pleasantly suprised by how much weight this design can hold. cool.gif

I think the only improvement that I could make to the sled is to add some 3/8" board to create a nice flat surface for everything to sit on. Of course this would probably add another 10-15lbs, but the thing only weighs about 30lbs as it sits now. We'll see... smile.gif
