Cub Scout ice fishing derby

For those interested. I just got an email in regards to the Northern Lights District ice fishing derby on January 21. It has been cancelled. I can't say as that I blame them. Weak ice and then through a bunch of people in a small area beside seems to spell disaster to me.

I was told that the cub scouts are very averse to any water-related events. Not surprised that they'd balk at an ice fishing activity.

Say, does anyone know if the Glenwood All-Scout Ice Fishing Derby on Lake Minnewaska is still on for Feb 4th?

Yah, the BSA has no official rules about ice fishing, which essentially means if someone gets hurt, the BSA insurance wouldn't cover injuries or fatalities. There are also very strict rules about open water activities called Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat, resulting from a high number of drownings in the early years of scouting. I also believe that Cub Scouts are prohibited from certain open water events that Boy Scouts are allowed to do.
