Recommended Posts

Hey guys looking for some info if you can help me? Im from central minnesota and love the pike fishing in North Dakota.I've been to devils a couple of times and I ran into a couple of guys from Sanborn and they were talking about ashtabula was good for northerns? Planning a trip or two out that way this winter and would like to know how the fishing is or other lakes around the area and most important the best local watering holes after working up a thirst. Thanks Guys and good fishing!

Well I sure wouldn't skip going Pike fishing at Devils Lake to go to Ashtabula. There are decent pike in there but not in the numbers that there are Devis Lake. There is a Lake or rather it goes by a slough name that has been kicking out decent numbers of northerns and fare size I hear. Personally I haven't fished it yet since I am a walleye guy but I might be making a trip there sooner than later. Ashtabula is a hit or miss lake some days you can get some days you don't. So if you are planning for some steady action go to DL or consider the slough I talked about email me and I will fill you in on more of what I know there. As far as watering holes if you go to Ashtabula there are two crossings of the road across the lake one is called Kelly's Crossing (crossing) and the other is sibely crossing (Sibely) both have water hole services you requested. Also Sandborn has a good place called the Full Throttle.

IFF is right. The best time to catch fish on Ashtabula ISN'T during winter for the casual or visiting angler. if you're coming in spring it might be a different story, but I wouldn't waste time if you're looking for consistency through the ice.

It IS a great summer fishery with walleye, perch and white bass. The occasional big pike too. You're more than welcome to visit, but with the bite as it has been and the ice still varying in depth from 8-14 inches, there's no car travel advised yet.
