CPTNTIM
I just got a FL-18 and would like to use it in my boat. Where would you mount the transducer? The options I have seen that I would use would be on my trolling motor or one that would be in hull and shoot thur my allum. boat in the back. What are the pro's and cons to these locations? HARPOON-OR-BUST
WELL I HAVE MY FL-18 MOUNTED ON MY TROLLING MOTOR. I WOULD SAY THE PRO'S WOULD BE THAT YOU GET TO USE IT YEAR ROUND. THE CONS (FOR ME) WOULD BE THAT I DON'T USE MY TROLLING MOTOR VERY OFTON UNLESS IT IS A SMALLER LAKE ON A CALM DAY. I USUALLY FISH BIGGER WATER. ANOTHER CON WOULD BE THAT IS YOU HAPPEN TO ADJUST THE DEPTH THAT THE MOTOR IS RUNNING AT THEN YOU HAVE EXCESS CORD TO DEAL WITH. (IF YOU HAVE IT ALL STRAPPED IN AT CERTAIN DEPTH) SO FOR PARTNER IN TOURNAMENT SITUATIONS I WOULD BET THAT HE WOULD RATHER HAVE ONE THAT IS MOUNTED SOMEWHERE WHERE HE CAN USE IT ALL THE TIME. I AM SURE EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT OPINIONS.
Walleyeguy31
I mounted my FL-18 speed transducer directly on the hull of the boat, it works well. It is fun to sometimes jig right below it.
get-the-net
I have a transducer on the trolling motor up front for trolling weedlines and a skimmer at the back of the boat for jigging. I like the fact that I can accurately spot fish while running wide open with the transome ducer. I usually put my bowmount elec trolling motor all the way down every time I use it, so I set the cord to accomodate this. From what I've read and heard, the alumaducers by Vexilar work really well when shooting through the hull. With one of those, you have less junk hanging off the back of the boat.
