Forestlaker
Has anyone stayed at the guest house at Scenic State Park?I am thinking of some winter time activities for March. Any advice on other possible winter cabin rentals in state parks?
Norsk Fisker
Haven't stayed there, but check out other options too. The Garney Cabin at Savanna Portage is about 150 yards from a nice crappie hole. Bear Head's Guesthouse would be another good option. Check availability on the net then call the park for info. Lund4ver
I have never stayed in the guest house, but I have been going to Scenic State Park, and if you have never been there before, I would say it is one of the best state parks in the state for great site seeing. Many options, including good fishing.I know the guest cabin used to be the Rangers house, and it was really nice when the ranger used to live at the campground. There is also another cabin there that is the old naturalist cabin, and that is fixed up really nice, and is an old log home. Any other questions about the park, just post them here, and I will try to answer them.
Forestlaker
Thanks for the information. We will be going up in the middle of March. We plan to do some skiing and ice fishing. I have not fished the lakes in the park before. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your replies.
Lund4ver
A good place to start is out in front of the boat landing in the "Lodge" campground. There is a hump with 30 feet of water leading to it, and then it tops out at roughly 6 feet of water, and there are weeds on the top of that, and also there is a rock pile by chase point (reed bed), with deep water on either side of that. Never have fished it in the winter though, but those are good places to start during open water season. Some big fish in the two lakes there. Park staff is usually pretty helpful if you are a first timer. Also can check with Antler Lodge (east of park on Scenic Highway 7).
