Interesting footnote to 2005 season

Fishy,

Johan has only been a full time starter for 2 seasons!!! He's started 108 games in 5 years.

Yes and 36 of those starts was the first 3 of those 5 years. He worked in an out of the pen for the those years. He started 30+ games the last two years as did all of your boys. So I guess I would consider 14 games when healthy is a part time starter. Do your homework!

{There is the reason you are a bar owner and not a major league GM. You are welcome to join any of my fantasy and rotisserie leagues any time you would like. It would be like free money with those kind of moves. Thanks though, it has been a tough week and I needed a laugh.}

What's so funny about that? Don't you think that would be a good trade for the Sox? I would be willing to part with Vazquez or Contreras for Santana......but when's Santana's contract up, and what will he be demanding?

Let's see...

I would be offering a 26 yr. old, Cy Young winner who has not had a ERA over 3.07 in 4 years and is 3.31 lifetime for:

Option 1:

A 29 yr old. with a 4.28 lifetime ERA

OR

Option 2:

A 34 year old with a 4.28 lifetime ERA

Yeah, that is funny

Let me join your fantasy league.

And, actually, being a bar owner is pretty much a side job (tax shelter). I have interest in 6 companies. Maybe I work for the White Sox.........

I do understand it is a side job as Dad already set you up in his business. Maybe I can get myself a Twins jersey, get a picture taken with a player and insinuate I work for the club.

That's one more year, and 11 more million that could go bad.

You are right but is also given to a guy who has had two years of outstanding pitching to Garland's one year of very good pitching. I would say that there is a value in that risk/reward scenario.

Boy what a hot topic. All I was asking is if WINDY (not commanche) would rather have Santana over anyone of the sox pitchers, without throwing out a buch of dumb stats. I knew windy is usually bias but I fiquered if he was answering the question before noon that I could gat a sober response. laugh.gif I knew with commanche that their was no chance of getting a decent responce.

That would be like me taking all of the twins hitters(yes even cuddyer) over Konerko. HELLO WAKE UP. How insane is that. But I enjoy the humor of it all and hope the two teams play good ball this year and have a good race(as long as the twins win) grin.gif

CAN I GET AN AMEN........

I would take Garcia, Buehrle, Garland, or Contreras over Santana any day of the week.

FriendlyFisher, this was my first response....and yes, that's pretty decent...straight forward, with a short explanation. (You jump on a bandwagon insinuating that our ballpark is in the middle of a warzone, in essence taking a jab at White Sox fans' economic status. It is insulting to a Sox fan and ignorant of you, because if you knew ANYTHING about the area, you would know the projects have been torn down and the south side is going thru a major re-development. For the better, too.)

Then everyone said I was nuts.

THEN, I start throwing stats up to back up why I PERSONALLY would not give up any of our pitchers for Santana. I took a lot of things into consideration. I seem to think that I'm just like Kenny Williams. Why would I want him for a long term deal for that kind of money, or give up any of our pitchers for him? HE HAS ONLY BEEN A FULL TIME STARTER FOR 2 COMPLETE SEASONS!!! Garland went into 2005 as the Sox 5th starter, winning 12 games in each of his last 3 seasons. Great 5th starter.

And Fishy, why does partnering with my father bring you to hostilities? Is there something wrong with wanting to help daddy's established business grow further to create a future for my children and my grandchildren, especially when I look forward to what tomorrow may bring? Do you look forward to going to work, or are you an "I can't wait til Friday" guy? Dad gave me an opportunity, just like every one of our employees, and I ran with it. I'd be foolish NOT to let him set me up, don't you think?

You sign him to a long term deal for two reasons if you are the Twins.

1. He is the ace of your staff and puts fans in the seat. Besides given the Twins perceived history of not being able to retain their players because they don't want to spend the money. If they didn't sign Santana, Ryan would have been driven out of town.

2. True he's been a starter for only 2 years, but in those two years he's been a unanimous Cy Young winner and a 3rd in the voting the following year. All while playing with an underpowered offesive team. Immagine if he was with a team who could actually score runs! You know darn well, that had the Twins not resigned him and Santana hit the free agent market he would have probably garnered more than what he got from the Twins with every other team looking to bring them into the fold. Even 'ol Kenny would have probably liked to steal him away from a division rival.

True, most Twins fans talk of Santana like he's the next greatest pitcher of all time, but you guys talk like he's Kyle Lohse. Guess that's what makes this all the more fun. laugh.gif

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I were Kenny Williams, I would make the following trades:

Contreras, straight up, for Santana.

Vazquez, straight up, for Santana.

Or dare I say Vazquez and Contreras for Santana.

Our starting rotation, in this order, would be pretty nice:

Buehrle

Garcia

McCarthy

Garland

Santana grin.gif

Then you're the only one.

Buehrle is the only one I would even consider. He is a very good pitcher. The rest had a good year last year, but before that, they would all be considered relatively average. Kyle Lohse type pitchers. grin.gif

Commanche, I never tried to insult you by any means. And I dont recall saying anything about your ballpark or economic situation. I have only been poking good fun at ayou in a kind spirited maner. I would realy like our pitching staff if it wentas follows

Santana

Santana

Santana

Santana

any slug in the world or Santana again

Actually Im fairly happy with our pitching staff, as long as we do not get injured and we can swing a bat or two, we should be about ten game over 500. In the past it has been enough, we shall see this year.

Alright Jim here it is....

You are way too sensitive and narrow of focus. You have stated your opinion and put up and argument for it. We have done the same. Maybe you feel I have it out for you. I do not. You just seem to have a very hard time to give anyone else credit if they aren't in a Sox uniform, so I do go after those types of arguments.

In my orginal remark about your career, I was only making a joke about how crazy I thought your statement was, and you are not a baseball GM. I was not judging you on whether you own a bar, sweep garbage or sit at the head of the table in the board room. Sorry it that was misunderstood. I did not think it was insulting to call you a bar owner. The Daddy jab was in response to what I thought was a assertion of importance.

PS...Yesterday you were arguing with me over my statement that Johan has only been a starter for two seasons. Now you are using it to make your case. confused.gif

Willy,

Once again........as in a previous post......I tried to clarify my 1st statement.........

All I said is that I'd take any of our guys in the PLAYOFFS over Santana.

And again, you are the only one in the United States of America that thinks this way. laugh.gif

Well, maybe not........There is this guy named Windy. wink.gif

Giddy up, guys. This is all in fun, as usual. My wife's a lawyer....... this is where I get my argumentative side.

I have an extra ticket for Sox fest today, and 2 extras for Sunday......Anybody want to fly down and I'll give you the extra tickets?

This offer is only good to Twins fans.
