zelek
I just purchased a used Lunker that needs to have the holes (which leak) from the transducer screws sealed and a new mounting plate put on. If I just fill the holes with stainless pan head screws coated with silicon, will that do the trick? Also, do most of you prefer the mounting plates with the holes above the water line or doesn't it really matter that much?? 0 Surface Tension
You should be fine with the silicon and screws to plug the old holes. Above water or below doesn't matter for the mounting plate. Just seal the holes in both locations with silicon. Don't shy away from holes down low either. Holes up high are going through the wood in the transom. This is were you certainly don't want any water leaking. When water gets in between the wood and aluminum or glass is doesn't dry out and ends up rotting the transom out in that area.
