Yamaha 4 stroke ?

Dusty

Question

I have a Yamaha 115 4s. The last two times I have used it I have noticed a trickle of oil coming from the exhaust tube on the back of the motor. This happened after the boat was out of the water and in the garage with the motor lowered. The oil isn't burned but fresh. I checked the oil level and it reads full. The amount of oil is less than a teaspoon. After wiping it off no more comes out. I have had the motor for 2 years and never noticed that in the past. Should I be conserned ?

If you serviced your motor last year or hired it done did you or the mechanic fog the motor. If so it is probably just the fogging oil burning off and coming out the exhaust.

Bees, Jet Skis, Virus, x-files ? ? ? whatttt? Something is smoking and it don't smell like petro.

Seriously I do not think running the motor more would matter in this case, on a 2 stroke I will give you a maybe but not a four stroke.

I do agree with you that Jet Skis relieve stress, I feel better every time I throw a rock at one. (;-)

After painstaking research on the internet I discovered your problem. Has your engine ingested any honeybees lately? If so, it may have an interesting virus portrayed on x-files and it is mutating into something not of this world. Studies have shown that the next step in the evolution of infected outboards is pretty scarey to say the least. Most have turned into something called jet skiis. Perhaps you have seen these, or should I say heard these? One might say they are the bane of many fishermen. Rumor has it that there is an anti-virus drug that fights the progression of this disease, but most people have discovered the cure to be using the motor more while fishing. This not only defeats the action of the virus, but also greatly alleviates the stress of the owner, making the situation much easier to handle.

In all seriousness, the leaking is probably just a little oil slipping past the valves when the engine sits for a period of time. Quite a few engines do this (cars, airplanes, tractors, etc.), you just don't see it because it drips down into the exhaust pipe, or the position of the engine makes the dripping go into the cylinders. If it was mine I would run some seafoam in the gas to help burn out some of the carbon. Probably doesn't matter, though. Oh, just joking about it being a virus. I raise honeybees and don't want anyone to start getting scared of the little darlin's. And remember:
FISHING ISN'T BORING, ONLY PEOPLE ARE BORING.

I like the virus idea, maybe two pills a day in the tank will clear the drip.
I had the oil changed at the dealership and added seafoam before storage. I used the motor every day last week and noticed a small oil slick while parked at the dock. Now the oil drip is foamy looking. Guess I best call the dealer. Thanks for the suggestions.
