Temps and Snow

Recommended Posts

Took a drive by the lake at lunch today and the right side of the boat launch had some skim ice and the backsets were tight almost to the main channel. I didn't see any ice near the winter entrance. There still dropping water as the main gate is wide open and ripping.

Were getting socked with lake effect snows again, there was 5 to 6" in the driveway and a buddy of mine that lives in Lee just north of Rome got 12" plus. I don't think this will effect the large lakes but the smaller lakes and ponds that were starting to set-up will be hurting. Better to be safe than sorry...

We dread getting snow like that here in MN on early ice as well. We are making good ice here the last few days but I would really like to see some below zero weather to help this along. Pretty soon we will be on the ice.

George I talked to "Z" and the snow that we got in central and southern NY did in the small lakes that were starting to set up around here. Will try for late this week but most likely next weekend, fingers crossed anyway.

Hey there North Shore and where have you been hiding? Only kidding bub... Busted my kiester this morning for the better part of two hours, yes more snowblowing, roof raking and snow blowing again. Still have some automotive stuff to do in the garage this afternoon. Sunday will be pre loading day for ice fishing, a practice run so to speak. Making sure all the stuff is in the right places. Looking forward to testing the new JB Tackle stuff too.

Jeff- It's down right depressing but were pretty resilient here we just have to catch a break... Don't know if the old Dodge Caravan could make it out west and my wife Rosa would throw me out if I took her van, darn college loans., but that's how it goes. I know your bustin hump there at work, enjoy yourself next weekend can't wait to read your report when you get back, catch one for me will ya grin.gif

Looks like 4" of new snow predicted for today, it's coming down heavily here now, we picked up a dusting to an inch or so during the over night with an ice crust in between which made the drive to work a little hairy.

Delta Lake Report - Checked out the lake today and across the lake inside the point that is across from Stokes there was two guys fishing. Upon further investigation they went out from the beach earlier that morning as there tracks were pretty much filled in with snow. Walked down by the Ranger Station on the winter entrance side down the stairs to the lake and walked out about 15 yards and drilled a hole with my auger and stuck the tape measure down and to my surprise 5.5 to 6" of ice 3" black with 2.5" to 3" of white ice, a dusting of snow and then a 1/4" ice crust and 3" of wet snow on top. I did however look a little further out and saw a wet spot but from what I could see looking out the winter entrance to the channel it looks good for the weekend. Just be careful and check with a spud after the 2nd point going out...

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
