Reed1
Hi,I am fairly new to ice fishing and I purchased a LX-3 earlier this year. My question is What is the best way to hang the transducer? Also what is the best depth to suspend it? I truly appreciate your time in this matter. Also does Marcum make a "Using flashers for dummies" type video? If not, it would be a nice addition to their product line. Thanks,Reed
CNY Tim
The best way to hang a transducer I think is the gravity method that's the best way for me. I like hole hopping outside of my Pro too and I found the gravity rubber stop levels in the Genz packs and MarCum's ice shuttles preferrable for my style of fishing. I didn't particulary care for the ice ducer floats it seems like they never stop bouncing and if you have wind it will run around the hole on you. The best way to hang your transducer is as follows... if your fishing 10' or less hang it just so it contacts the water about maybe a 1/2" deep at early ice as the ice get's thicker you may have to adjust deeper in this scenario or you could switch to the NBT Narrow Beam Transducer on the LX-5 model. Basically I try to keep my tansducer as shallow as possible while retaining good readings. The best depth for your transducer is to have the ceramic base of the transducer cleared of the bottom of the hole you are fishing dont go to far because if your slow reacting that big gill could have you wrapped, it doesn't take much. I don't have my LX-5 manual but re reading the LX-3 manual it's pretty plain and simple to use. It's customer friendly because it's engineered and built right here in the U.S. You can get every owners manual on line at both web sites. I encourage new users to read and get familiar with there online owners manuals while waiting for the unit to come in. The MarCum unit is the easiest flasher to use, no doubt... Bob Horn
You may find as the ice gets thicker you will need to have the transducer at the bottom of your ice hole. If you start seeing something that looks like interference than just lower your ice ducer to the bottom of your ice hole and it will go away. Welcome to FM. icedog
I have an LX-3 (soon to be modified to an LX-3tc by Marcum) and use a Vex float to suspend it. I like the floats because they are easier for me to use...the unit can be set anywhere and I can drop the ducer into a hole without moving the unit. I agree with the others...keep the ducer at or near the bottom of the ice (in the hole) to avoid ringing or feedback signals from causing interference. (take care of that ducer too and don't drop it on the ice or drag it along on the ice..they can break and aren't cheap to replace) I also agree with you...Marcum needs to do a video on how to use these units. I pity the person just getting into this ice fishing stuff now (sort of like jumping into computers after living in a cave somewhere)....the learning curve can be daunting. Vex has the advantage on the education....just have to play with your LX-3 and read and re-read that book...also ask questions of the guys you are fishing around...they may just be the best teachers out there. Good luck icedog
