Craig_S
Now I've got a brand new Otter, old but serviceable sled, and NOBODY seems to make a ready made auger mount for a snowmobile. I like the Otter ATV mount, have seen some other plastic tube deals out of Canada, including engine cover. But nobody makes a bracket for a sled rack? I'd much rather have my auger out and ready before I need to take the cover off the house. Suggestions?Craig
Paul Waldowski
Craig, I feel your pain. I've been working on solving this problem for a month or so. I think I have it worked out, but need to test it in the field
Jim Hudson
Craig,Yeah one of the dilemnas of having a snowmobile... They are all different and it's hard to make an auger mount that would match up to all sled types. One thing, if you do have a rear rack on a two up sled. You could get by using the Ryan's ATV yokes, do a search and the HSOforum will pop up. They will bolt on to the rear rack and hold the auger pretty well. Or even bolt a 2X6 down onto the snowmobile rack, then bolt on the yokes so they hold the auger on the powerhead and the lower portion of the auger bit. Or you could make a bracket with the Otter tube set up, also on the rear rack. Put the tube on the outside of your carry rack so the auger is tilted with the motor up. Or have a rack made where the auger sits in the front, but this takes some creativity to find a spot to bolt the framework down. A lot of the newer sleds you have to cut through the belly pan area to run the frame into the motor area to bolt it down. A definite custom job.
