wmn luv me walleye fearme
Does it go bad? I fried a turkey last thanksgiving and have left the oil in the fry pot all year (kept meaning to store it and strain it but got lazy then forgot about it). Looks fine but I was wondering does it spoil? Or if I strain it and put it back would i still be ok.thanks
New Yankee
The oil can go rancid and turn cloudy over time, indicating it's turning South on you. Most sources I've seen say the shelf life is a couple of three months, but that is untainted (not used) oil. Remember, you've got the oils/fats and spices from last year's turkey in there as well. Kinda pricey, but I'd dump it. I'm sure you've seen the pumps and filters for the oil at Cabellas and other stores -I've not bought them, but if you use them and store the oil in the garage fridge, you may be able to fry your Spring fish in it, but not next years turkey
wmn luv me walleye fearme
Was definately hoping to avoid blowing the 20 bucks on more oil but had a feeling it wasnt good anymore. Even if i use the oil only once it comes out so good its worth itthanks
loadmaster
I would dump it. What I do and nobody has gotten sick, is to run it thru the pump/filter in to 1 gal water containers ( the same size that milk comes in) and then FREEZE it for the next time. Make sure it is kept frozen during the entire time. I have also thawed it and restained it again as the particals seperate during freezing process
