Adding other equip to 12v vex battery

What is the best way to add lights or other accessories to run off a vex battery? The clips that run from the vex to the battery don't leave any room for additional hookups. Can you buy additional clips that fit the battery and that can split to feed other equipment? Or do you just shove a bare wire in between the pole and the clip to the vex? I would like to add some rope lights and a battery power indicator.

One of my other hobbies is Ham Radio. Nearly everything we use runs off of 12V DC. We have adopted a connector that works great, is rugged, you can't connect them the wrong way and the contacts are self cleaning. It is called the Powerpole connector. They have all the wire, connectors, splitters, adapters... whatever you might need. If you want to do this right, these are the way to go.

Yes, places like radio shack or maybe even WalMart will have spade connectors to double the conection tabs on a 12-volt battery.
