Last year on early ice I found a little trick that helped me gain traction.

I screwed some short sheet metal screws (that ones the motorcycle ice racers use) into the lugs on my boots. They worked really good.

Also when running down the street they make a nice spark show.

They also work great screwed into the knobs on the front tires of your 4 wheeler. Really makes a big difference turning on glare ice. I just used 1/2" sheet metal screws.

That does work great. I have been doing just that for a few years. Its not good though when you go staight from fishing to a resturant that has hardwood floors. I found that out once.
