Hydrofoil Question

Starman

Question

I'm trying to help a friend with a bow lift problem on the hole shot when tubing and skiing. Here is the details that I do know. 18' speedboat w/ a 3.0 Mercruiser (part of the problem). His boat has a worn 19" pitch prop on it. He is looking at adding a hydrofoil to help it out of the hole a little and with staying on plane at lower speeds. Which hydrofoil brand would you suggest and how hard are they to install? Is drilling the holes easier than it sounds? We plan on trying this first before messing with the prop pitch. Any other suggestions?
Thanks Starman

I'd have the prop repaired first.
Are you trimming the lower unit in to plane out and at lower speeds?
If your hole shot and is doggy you may have to go with a different prop.
I would recommend power trim tabs or spring tabs with an IO instead of a foil.

S.T.,
First, thanks for the response. Yes my friend(really), said that he is trimming the motor all the way down at a start or slow speeds. Also, the prop isn't worn that much I guess, just a few good dings. Are the trim tabs you refer too the type that are two metal plates with springs mounted to the bottom of the transom?
