First Ice

Guess what gents? I got my first glimpse of first ice today, a thin layer in the bed of the pick up, on top of the standing water from yesterdays rain...it'll be here before you know it!

There was ice beads on my windshield this morning too. But I've think it's a case of premature iceulation.

Yup, that you can Danny me boy! That you can! Last years ice was thicker, this stuff was like fine glass, but ice none the less!

Truthfully, I'm not wishing for anything early, we have been inundated with extra work after the storm and we still have our standard stuff to get done! Might need a little extra time on the tail end of things to get everthing completed?

Its been around the first or second week of December here in Iowa the past couple of winters.....hasnt stuck around long though as our Decembers have been "warm" and ice dies as soon as it gets going. Hoping for a REAL winter this year for a change.....if I can ice fish here in Iowa by Dec 1 and we dont lose it I will be a very happy icehead.

Yes, yes I do and I plan to give it a work out, no doubt! I was buzzing down the street and the neighbor guy down the block comes buzzing out on his and we had a chat.

Seems he got his, a "Big Red" from his bud for $150.00, runs like a top, looks pretty good, has an electric start and get this, he even has reverse! Mine has neither I told him how much I hate him and we shook and went on our merry ways. She's ready to rock!

For the past few winters i havn't got out till around Christmas. I sure hope this year is different. I plan to get out by at least December 10, but November 20 sounds good to me.

6 of one, half a dozen on my feelings for ice. If only I had my deer bagged for the year would I feel better. For now, I'm just waiting for that opportunty. THEN I'll be psyched about ice-fishing!

The Devils Lake region is expecting 4-8" of snow tonight and tomorrow. Highs are only in the low 30's and lows forcasted for the mid 20's. I'm sure it will warm up again but boy does is get you thinking about getting back on the ice. I'm ready anybody else?

Oh yeah!!! Hope to see you out on 6 mile flying flags again at early ice!! I'm making a trip out again and all I need is 4 inches of clear!! Uh, I get a little skittish on anything less than 4 inches.

Hanson, You just need to close your eyes on any thing less than 4" and heaven forbid never look at the ice when you walk and it cracks like a spider web.

Hanson- I'm waiting on a deer for the archery season. I have a couple of dates in the woods before gun season. IF and ONLY IF I have to buy a gun license will I. Otherwise I sure hope it works out for me with my bow!
