2 STROKE,TILLER, 60HP EVINRUDE -ALARM GOES OFF

I have a 60HP,oil injected, Evinrude (mid 1980's), tiller. The alarm goes off unpredictably - but mainly when the motor

is idling and on tilt (boat ramp for example) - any suggestions to cure this problem? Thanks.

Replace your water pump impeller. it sounds like at idle speed your not getting enough water pumped through the engine because the impeller has either broken or taken a "set"

Yep, new water pump in order from the sounds of it. If you want to try tackling the job yourself do a google search on the web - "replace water impeller". You should have plenty of reading, and some websites will show pictures on how to do it yourself.

i HAVE A 99 MECR. 40 HP TILER AND MINE GOES OFF AT THE BOAT LANDING EVERY NOW AND THEN, BUT NEVER DURING IDEA. I'M INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT IT IS MYSELF.

After rebuilding my powerhead last month because of an injector pump failure, my first suggestion is to pump the oil line primer bulb when the alarm is going off. I tried this on mine and the alarm stops after pumping the bulb. It could also be a temperature problem but the oil test is a quick and easy test.

THANKS FOR THE HELP - I WILL TRY TO PUMP THE OIL 'BULB' NEXT TIME AT IDLE....I GET THE IDEA FROM THOSE WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A 'BAD WATER IMPELLER' - THAT WHEN THE MOTOR IS 'IDLING' IT IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH WATER - AND WHEN IT IS RUNNING WIDE OPEN THE MOTOR IS GETTING ENOUGH WATER...THANKS
