wrshog
I have been driving around for 3 weeks looking for geese in southern Chisago county and let me tell you they really seem sparse this year. Is it just me or am I just not looking in the right places?
WalleyeWeasel
They are around, the problem is getting permission to hunt them these farmers/sod farmers have either been done wrong in the past or they are paranoid (maybe of the liability) I swear, i've stopped and asked politely at least 35 times in the last 2 weeks and i get the same reply ......NO!! I've even offered to do some handyman type stuff in return for hunting permission......i just don't get it
wrshog
I am not even seeing them around. Not like the years past. I have been running into the "I have family hunting it." reason and a distant second, it's leased. I am just east of you in Wyoming and I have been looking from Taylors Falls to Forest Lake and the numbers are just not there. What's the "former Ranger" mean? Aren't you always a Ranger? WalleyeWeasel
Former, as in used to live there.i guess i always will BE a ranger tho. I see quite a few geese in the fields (a.m. & evening) and have seen many more flying (a.m.) I'm just looking for somewhere to sit, the geese don't necessarily have to be there at that particular time they will eventually do a "fly by" and i'd like to be there when they do......ya cant shoot em from the deck, road, car window, townhome parking lot, or anywhere in Blaine so i'll keep pursuing a field

CRAPPIEBAIT
I've been hunting Columbus twp,and the geese are rather low in numbers this year compared to previous seasons. My 5 yr old & I shot 2 on opener,1 that Sunday & 2 this last Saturday with nothing on Sunday.(I think they all went to the bar to watch the vikes get WOOOOOOPED on).I think if more people hunted it would get the bigger flocks up and moving around a little more, cause there are birds in the area, just not flying. honker23
A quick, easy and good recipe for breasts.....Roll breasts in flour and seasonings, quickly brown in olive oil (1-2 min), remove from pan and thin slice the breast...should still be rare inside. Place the slices back in pan of olive oil for 20-30 sec a side, don't overcook, should be med or med rare. Remove the slices. place 2 oz of cooking red wine or sherry in the pan and scrape up all the flour and meat bits and mix. Add 2 oz of grape/blueberry/stawberry jam and stir in on low heat, then add a quarter stick of butter and melt in the sauce. Place strips back in the pan briefly 30 sec - 1 min and you are done. Take strips out and dump the sauce over them. Very tender and tastes good.

CRAPPIEBAIT
I use the same basic idea as honker except,no jams/jellies.I cook with dry onion soup mix and then when you slice the meat add 1 cup of heavy cream.
