Lowrance X-15 GPS question...?

Big Julie

Question

When I use my trail option and backtrolling slow I've noticed that If I'm going really slow and on a particular leg and change direction, the trail course sometimes does not display accurately.

Say I'm on an easterly leg and start going south, I don't get a new leg for my travel, the east leg starts pivoting from its first point with my travel.

If I'm going east and backtrack to the west, sometimes, the plot will eat up my previous leg instead of printing over it in the opposite direction.

Not a huge deal, but is it typical?

I think what is happening is the trail has reached it maximum points and is writing over itself. By default your trails are set to 2000 points when you create a new trail. You can change that number to 9999. A trail is made up of a bunch of points. A point is created everytime you chnge directions, even if its a slight change. Once the trail reaches that maximum number it is set for, it will start to write over itself. Try adjusting the maximum points under trail options. also try changing how your trail is updated under the trail settings as well. That changes how your trail is updated on your screen(time or distance) and how often it is updated. It can be every second, or every foot you move for example.

Big Julie,

Actually your problem is something called Pinning or trail smoothing which is an option pre set on your gps unit. Simply find it in your menu and turn it off and you will display a true plot trail of your course at any speed.
