will the wild make the playoffs

from ESPN John Buccigross

The Wild missed the playoffs last year because they just couldn't generate any offense. They will need Marian Gaborik to be their star, and they will need goals from Brian Rolston. This team makes huge money and had plenty to spend to upgrade the team, but they chose to stay with their no-one-is-bigger-than-the-team philosophy, and as a result, others have passed them by. They will still be fun to watch, but the playoffs are a long shot

Hope he's wrong but I agree......

Now Dougy is all hyped up about Daniel Tjarnqvist and his offensive skills confused.gifconfused.gif well maybe thats why his has a career -46 crazy.gif!!

I said in another thread on this forum that I thought the Wild needed a good offensive defenseman to run the power play...the Wild have been brutal on the PP the last few years. A few more PP play goals gets them a few more wins (over all those ties they had last year) and a few more ties (over all those one-goal losses) and gets them in contention for the playoffs...but I'm not sure if Tjurqvist is the guy, though...Hamerlink (sp?) might have been...

yeah ummm....

I'm going to have to agree then disagree with you jarrod.

the PP has been horrible frown.gif but I don't think it was the person running the PP, I think its the team as a whole that can't connect tape to tape, hold for to long and are much to inexperienced to handle it. JMO

They need a vet, old school vet that has ice water in his blood to settle everyone down when the score is close, they ran around too much and it costed them dearly. With the shuffle of the NHL now, well teams have really evened out and I think the wild will look like a college team amonst professionals. I hope I eat my words but thats what I see, maybe another 3-5 years but I am just to impatient I guess. Its already been 4 years and one good trip to show, crazy.gif

You're certainly right about the passing...passing (or not passing) and shooting (or not shooting) at the right (or wrong) times. And you may be right about the player movement among other teams pushing the Wild further back...time will tell.

I agree with most of the above, but my biggest pet pieve about the Wild's power play is that they constantly dump and chase. It would be one thing if they won the race to the puck but half of the time it's shot right back down the ice. They should not have to dump and chase when they are on the power play and if they do they should win the race to the puck. They have to be able to gain and hold the zone before they can have an effective power play.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
