snowmobile registration??

Was just wondering wat all the steps are to register your snomobile and what you need,i heard need some kind of insurance?,is that true?...Also i heard you need some proof of ownership wich i dont thing i have so will i not be able to register it?i have a 1975 ski-doo tnt 440 tht i just fixed up last winter i would like to licence and use because i cant drive and life a quarter of a mile from some hot fishing on OT
