What a fast weekend.

When the weather cooperated, fishing was good. The two nets we saw were out deep (over 110 feet deep). The fishing was fairly shallow, in 55- 100 feet of water, fishing down 55-71 feet.

We were on the water by 4AM, and a lot of fish came in before 5AM. Sat AM, we had 6 in the boat before 5. The new glow spoons with pink dots in regular in needlenose did very well all day. White optis or 8" flashers with glow flies also did well in low light conditions. Otherwise, green, blue, aqua or white flies worked. Pro-king spoons only caught us one brown this trip. Had to run up to Elison Bay for two evenings due to the wind(about 20 miles, and worth it). The bite was fair up there on the point a mile or so West of Gils Rock.

Sat night just after sundown, we had alewifes (sp) jumping out of the water all around us as far as the eye could see - wierd. Surface temps ranged from 69 to 74.

I need some sleep.

Good report, Ev. I'm getting pretty jittery in advance of the FMers trip over there. Were the fish you cleaned filled up with alewives or were they empty? The Ellison Bay fish were empty for us. Funny thing since the surface was covered with the little buggers at sundown.

I've gotta pick up a few more of those Needlenose spoons. They ruled the dipsys for us last time we were over there. Maybe oughta try them on a leadcore rig too. I'm for sure gonna try running the N2 and N3 Jewels in the blue glow as a "mup" rig on this next trip.

Let's see...it's lunchtime, the network is down, and Marine General is open...what to do... grin.gif

Lota Lota...

The bellies were 1/2 and 1/2, empty/full.

I picked up fish on dipsies, with a glow spoon, and one with one of those new lighted j-plugs I thought I'd try for the heck of it. We didn't run dipsies much because the wind didn't allow for deep running, long lines on them. I tried flasher/flies on dipsies with no luck.

We even cut the leashes short on the riggers to 25 feet or so to ensure we could corner better without langled tines in the winds.

The needlenose glow spoon with pink dots was evenly matched by the regular shaped spoon of the same color. A big brown and a nice rainbow came off a big bright green jewel spoon with a diagonal piece of green/white tape, making it look like a Northport Nailer on steriods.

I think you have to try everything once. I ran into some guys fom MPLS who said they were catching fish on a chartruese spoons with orange dots. I had one of those, so I put it on. When I went to check it, the line was broken behind the DR release. I've never had that happen before.

That's about all I can recall. Hope it helps.
