Cheq bay summer smallies??

Recommended Posts

Heading up there to visit the folks in Bayfield. Thought I might try for some bruiser bronzebacks on the bay. Any help on some general areas or better techniques for the end of July? I have some general ideas already, just looking for the all important local input. Thanks in advance.

Hey man...

The fish are spread out into the bay now, so looking for some sort of structure is going to be key. Rock, drop offs, weed beds, or deeper shorelines. All types of baits will work and even trolling for the buggers will produce. Most good maps of the bay show this type of structure.

Hey Jim,

Once again time slipped away. I did manage a couple of smallies from the bay. I did not make it out to the sloughs though, just fished around Ashland area. I can only imagine y'all might have been busy with the Poker Run Crowds up there eh?? I am going to be getting up there agin in August. We'll see. On a side not did make a contact with one of the better known orchards up there.... looks good. I am excited. grin.gif

Yup, I had to work during the event. It was certainly a spectacle to see. The boats were a sight to say the least, but the people who were out on our city dock in favor and against having these boats come into our port was even much more of a sight.

Glad you got a little fishing in, was a bit rough out there on Sat and today. Congrats on making contact, some nice deer roaming those orchards and the surrounding woods.
