Valley Creek Report

I caught a 17.25" rainbow out of Valley Creek in Afton last night on a spinner. He was the only taker. Caught a 14" brown last Sunday on a piece of crawler and lost another about 12". I saw several smaller ones, but couldn't get them to bite. The bow went back, the brown was delicious.

Do you have landowner permission to fish Valley? I've tried, but the good spots are surrounded by private land. I guess parking down on 95 at the historical marker and walking the creek west is an option. Also understand if you don't want to give up you secret. We trout fisherman tend to be tighter-lipped than the trout themselves.

I am new to this trout fishing, but decided to take the journey to "Valley Creek". Is this the creek that is about 100 yards north of the old Bohls Mill historical site just north of Afton??? I stopped in Afton and asked if anyone knew of Valley Creeek and the just knew the road. They called the place I fished Bohl creek or something to that tone. Well, they mentioned a hatchery up stream I know...Anyways, I attempted to fish that thing but only took a long A$$ walk in a shallpw stream and dint see anything! Granted I am new but I figured I would have seen SOMETHING resembling a fish, oh wait I saw a few minnows. SO the question is....was this the place to be, and if so what in the world did i do so wrong?! How do you go about fishing this stream, it seemed so shallow and desolate to me, do they hide in the weeds on the beds or what? Sorry for the probably stupid questions.

I park at the historical marker, just north of Afton. Then I walk the bike path north and this crosses the stream. Just on the north side of the stream, you take a left and head west down the bank to the stream. Yes, most of the stream is ankle deep and doesn't hold any fish. Look for any type of log jams or bends in the river. Any place that has a dark looking bottom may hold a fish or two. I fish just west of the the highway - maybe 50 feet or so...Hope this helps.
