Pheasants?

Recommended Posts

Seen a few chicks in June around the lake ponisett area. Pretty much the eastern half of the state has had rain. Some flooding in the NE part and by Aberdeen this spring. I'm sure some nests were flood out.

Form what I have been seeing the first clutch did not fair so well. There was heavy rain back then and probably drowned them out.

Latley I have been seeing chicks every where so I think it is going to be a good year for my pup to figure the system out.

Drove back from the River (Pierre area) yesterday late afternoon and evening to Watertown and saw tons of pheasants particularly in the Miller and Doland areas. Large broods of chicks of varying sizes, roosters still doing some fighting and just flat out lots of birds. In my travels in eastern SD this summer (sales rep) it looks pretty darn good for pheasants this fall.

River bite was pretty tough - sounds like it slowed significantly since the cold front last week and then subsequent heat. Caught one walleye on Sat near Spring Creek, went north to Bush's / Sutton Bay and caught 12 on Sunday and then tried below the dam on Monday for a few hours and caught 2 in the Down's Marina / Bluffs area. Lots of catfish though. Even tried Salmon for a couple hours Sat eve but only had one release.

Lots of swimming for the dog and family in the heat however...
