Speed/Temp Transducer for LMS 332C

TSCTSC

Question

I have the LMS 332 c with the normal transducer. Am thinking of getting a speed transducer so that I would know my actual trolling speed instead of my GPS speed. Should I be able to buy a speed transducer and just plug it into my unit. I am not sure cos' all my sockets on the transducer are filled up now.

I wouldn't recommend it. GPS speed is the most accurate.

The little wheel on speed sensors are worthless below 2.5mph, above they are ok, but not as accurate as your GPS.

I would keep using what you have now and save the money.

TSCTSC, 1) look over the NMEA 2000 pamplet that came with your unit. 2) Review page 37 of your LMS-332C manual. 3) Go to the Lowrance (LEI) HSOforum to see the correct accessory.

Now that wasn't too hard was it?

Thanks Valv for the advice and input. I need the speed sensor for determining trolling speed at 2-3 mph. So I guess the sensor will do me no good. Thanks for the advice and for saving me some money.

And BTW, no thanks to Dr Kehr for his comments.

Even a handheld will work fine, I had a Magelland 315 (old beast) and could mark from 0.3 mph and up.

I do have some wheels here, but they are just collecting dust I don't sell them to anybody.

I'll just throw in my $.02 that Valv is right on. Use the gps speed, the speed from any wheeled speed sensor is not reliable. Same goes for water pressure boat speedometers.

That's why you have guys claiming their boats run 10 mph faster than they really do, or claiming they troll down to 1.7 mph when they really can't get under 3 mph. Use a gps.

TSCTSC, the steps I outlined for you were the exact steps I used myself a couple of weeks ago to order the LEI NMEA 2000 Network Expansion Cable. In your original post you stated that "all the sockets were filled", the diagram on page 37 of the LMS 332C manual shows how and what accessory is needed to add the speed sensor you stated that you wanted for your unit. The diagrams in the NMEA 2000 Networks pamplet give alternative means of adding the speed sensor and/or other accessories to to the LMS 332C or other NMEA 2000 Lowrance units. The LEI HSOforum is the shortcut to order or at least determine the item number of the sensor that you would need for your unit.
