Wild Thing
Anyone going fishing on Lake of the Woods, Lac Seul the English River system or Winnipeg River system should know that water levels are nearing all-time highs for this time of year due to constant heavy rains. Some areas have lost significant shoreline areas (incluing beaches and campsites) many areas have flooded docks. Be careful for barely-submerged rocks, too. This is nothing to panic about and isn't a reason to cancel a trip, but be aware of how this might affect your trip. Rainy Lake apparently is starting to subside. But Lake of the Woods is now in the 95 percentile, meaning its this high only 5 years out of every century!! LOW is expected to come up just another inch before stabilizing -- IF we don't get any more rain. Just an fyi to people out there. It's not the kind of thing the tourist industry dwels on, but thought everyone should know. Go to www.lwcb.ca for water level info on all the border lakes. One person raised an interesting point -- with millions more gallons and thousands more acres of water now, the fish have more places to hide. Uffda. Good fishing!
