Misty's Fishing Adv.

Recommended Posts

Anybody been up here lately? Our trip is less than a month away. Really start getting excited about now. This is my second year going up here and love it! Mainly fish Indian, Ball, and Tide. From what I've been hearing it sounds like high water? Any reports will greatly appreiciated and help me keep the excitement to a low roar. smile.gif

Was up June 11-18th. The water was up to the steps of the marina. Fishing was good, but off from the last two years. Caught lots of 16" walleyes and small northerns. The bass were more active than usual. Fish were in 10-12 and 3-4ft, but the shallows warmed up a bunch our last two days which were clear calm and hot.

The days are getting closer but NOT close enough yet. We always stay on Fox Island in August. I think at one time or the another I have stayed on all of them except the camp sites on Indian. What a great place to fish.

Hey Jeff,

Sounds like we might stay in that area this year. When we talked up at the get together at LOW, I mentioned that we usually stay up north at Indian. Well that was booked. Sounds like about half the campsites are underwater or flooded to some degree. Any tips on places to go in that area? We will spend one day up at Maynard falls, but it would be nice to try some new water. Can't wait!

That area is my favorite area for several reasons. No matter how windy it gets up there once at the island we can always get out to fish and the fishing real close to camp is great if we choose to just stay close. That and we don’t burn near as much gas when we stay at that spot. There are a lot of times we will fish for several hours before even starting the outboard but rather just use the trolling motor.

Shoot me an email and I will share a few spots in that area to fish. When you heading up there?

I have a question about Misty's fishing adv. I see it is run by a rod castle, is it any relation the Castles at kcr. on the winepeg river. I ahve gone there before and fishing was pretty good, How does Misty's compare? Also will be camping I see you also camp at Misyt's. any info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure about the relation part, but both places are on the same HSOforum. I don't think he owns the place, from what other people have told me it's on a lease agreement. I've never fished the Winnipeg, but as far as fishing goes at Misty's, I would have to say it's some of the best. He has 10 primitive campsites scattered across several different islands. They consist of a fire ring, outhouse, picnic table, and a fish cleaning table. They also have a couple campsites right at the marina. Last year we caught 1 28"er and countless 22-24". I fish LOW almost once a week spring, summer, and Winter. We get pretty excited about 21-22" fish. When we are up here catching a 22" is like catching a 14" fish on LOW, they're all over the place. We usually go the first week in August, but this year bumped it up a little earlier. I think this is one of the best "drive-to" fishing spots and one of the most economical. You don't get the frills, but you get good fishing and some good memories.

There's not a bad one in the bunch. The problem this year is that some of them are under water. I wouldn't wait to long to book a trip. With fewer campsites available they are filling up fast. When you get up there, start fishing points off islands or nearly along any shoreline. Rodney has maps for sale at the marina and can point out a few places to get you started.

Take LOTS of 1/4 - 1/2 oz Jigs. We start with jig/minnow until the minnows are gone and then we go to jig and crawlers. Also try trolling a 3/4 oz Scenic Hammered Brass/Orange casting spoon for both pike and walleye. Run your spoon 160' behind the boat and travel at 3.8 - 4.3 mph. Hang on.

Bring LOTS of bug spray as well!!!

Hello fellow anglers. I will be staying with Misty's in the English River in a few weeks, I have stayed here before and have tried to locate some consistent smallmouth fishing around the Fox Island area with little success. We caught one or two pitching spinnerbaits to the shorelines fishing for pike. I am wondering if someone would be able to share some information with me about the smallmouth in that area that might lead me in the direction of some more consistent catches. We will be practicing 100% C&R, so no worry about us stealing "your" fish. Any thing you can offer I am sure would be of assistance, we really can't do much worse when it comes to the smallmouth. If you need any information about walleyes or pike in that area I may be able to share a few ideas there in return.

I will be up there in a couple weeks myself and will give you a report when I get back. We are targeting mostly walleye and I have never really tried for the bass all that much. We have caught a bunch of them by accident in the shoot just south of Indian while fishing for walleye.

Ditto on the reports, I'm heading up on Sunday and will be back Wednesday. Will give a report when I return. Never have fished for smallies, we always say we are going to take an afternoon and concentrate on them, but then the walleye's start biting and never quit. With all the different islands and structure I would have to guess that there are hundreds of good smallie spots.

Thanks guys, look forward to the reports. I thought the same thing about all the islands, rocks, and current. Figured finding the boat load of smallies can't be too tough out here, we found out otherwise and caught more walleyes and northern than we did smallies.

Good luck and I'll check back for your reports.
