Hey,

I'm new to this forum but it looks like a pretty good one. wink.gif My mom, dad, and I are coming up this summer and my dad and I would like to do some fishing. We don't know quite where we're staying yet because it's just one of those head north kinda things. We have a boat and I'm trying to talk my dad into bringing it but he dosen't know yet. My dad and I fished on LOTW last summer and caught some walleyes, smallies, and muskies. So if you could tell us where we could catch those fish and some pike form the bank or from a boat that would be great! Like I said I don't know where we're staying yet so wherever the fishing is best, I imagine that's where we'll stay.

Thanks alot,

TXBB

Welcome to the forums! You'll find alot of good information on here.

As for your question... MN has 10,000+ lakes so it would give us a better idea as to where to point you if we know where you're going to stay or be at that time. But LOTW is a very good place to start!!

Welcome! What part of Texas are you from? I lived in Houston for about 2 years, and my little brother still lives down there. To answer your questions, there is great fishing all across this state. If you can't talk your old man in hauling the boat all the way up here, why not rent a boat from an area resort? Virtually every resort has boat rentals, and many don't require you to be a paying guest to rent a boat. Expect to spend $50 a day (maybe less) for a plain old fishing boat/motor up to $120+ a day for a pretty one. Just a suggestion.

Texasbassboy, I would strongly suggest that you follow boilerguy's advice and hire a guide for at least half a day once you have an idea where you'll be visiting. If you know before you leave Texas, scroll down the various forums for specific lakes (areas) until you reach one that matches your final destination or close to your final destination. Post an inquiry on that forum as to guide recommendations.

If you won't know your final destination until you arrive in Minnesota, check out local bait/tackle stores on or near where you'll be staying to get the names of local guides.

After that you and your dad can rent a boat and "try it on your own. Remind him to bring a locator with a portable transducer if possible.

As the dentist to many of the professional anglers based out of the Brainerd area I can attest to the fact that they often used "local" guides when first fishing new waters.

Good luck and good fishing.
