Hey Guys,

I think it was last summer that they started charging. I believe it goes to covering costs related to the diversion project. For instance, having a person at the landing to question everyone about weeds, last lake fished, etc.

The reason for this, as I understand it, is the DNR has informed the city of Shell Lake that if milfoil or some other invasive species is found in Shell they will shut down the diversion project permanantly. Obviously that would not be good, so every precaution is being taken. They shut down all other landings on the lake and started manning the main access.

I was there over the 4th, got a few smallies and had a nice muskie on for a bit then lost him. The panfish were stacked under the dock and boat lift. The kids had a blast.

Saying the anglers are ultimately paying for the diversion project might be stretching it a bit. Anyone who uses the acess has to pay the fee, not just anglers. And I don't think the access fees are going to put much of a dent in the total cost of the diversion project.
