40hp Yamaha lower unit

I am trying to replace my impellar on a 92 yamaha 40hp, but the shift linkage is holding it on still. I got rained out so I'll try again tomorrow, my question is do i have to remove the drive shaft in the hood area, behind the carbs? cause that looks a little tricky:) or is it on the outside of the motor somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Oh, anyone know where to buy a new one? without ordering it?

Sorry I didn't see this.

You have to separate lower unit, then in the area open, on front of motor you will see a long coupler on shift shaft, I believe takes 2 10mm wrenches (it's all 100mm on that motor), and voila' you'll have it apart.
