LMS 480 & Lake master problem?

I installed an LMS 480 for a friend according to the instructions and it works until a card is inserted. Then the screen usually goes blank after powering it on, and I can still hear the transducer ticking. When I take the card out it works fine. I does turn on once and a while with the chip in though. The chip cover seats and tightens down just as it does without a chip in as well. I think that I may need to get the unit or chip upgraded or reformatted. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not familiar with the 480, but I would make sure you have the latest software version installed on your GPS and make sure you have selected the Lowrance map and not the Navionics map in in the setup menu. If that doesn't help, call customer service. They may have some ideas before getting a new map chip.
