dirtking
I am planning to ride my bike up to Canada to go fishing (LOTW). Does Canada have a helmet law?
Cheers
I assume you are talking motor bike. If so the answer is very definatly YES you must have a helmet on at all times.
Hemlock
Even if it's a bicycle you need a helmet, no kidding.
Redline
Even if they didn't have a helmet law, you should always wear it. It is horrible that this country doesn't have the law in every state. It would save many lives.
Hemlock
I agree. ATV's especially. I watched something on Kare 11 news the other night on ATV safety, and the "safety guy" wasn't wearing a helmet while riding, and the whole documentary was on ATV safety, and serious injuries/death to riders. Made me wonder.Kids here wear them while riding their bikes. I've started my 3 year old out wearing one, and lifejackets too. Start them young, and they won't know any different, but to wear them. dirtking
Thanks for the info - I will bring one with and put it on as I cross the border – kind of like I would do with my seat belt if I were in a car!

You like risking your life every time you get on the bike or ride in the car? I did a 10+ page paper on motorcycle helmet laws, and the info I found made me sick. If every state did it, we would save thousands of lives, and millions of dollars that we all have to pay because you like the wind in your hair. Also, I am not biased, I have my motorcycle license. badandy
Geeze, and I came here to discuss fishing. I can definitely appreciate both sides here - but we're all responsible or irresponsible adults here - the great thing is it's our perogative to decide. Maybe keep the politics to www.politics.com, and respect each other's right to do as they please within the law, while respecting the safety of others. In my research, I found what you said is the biggest problem. People think it is THEIR right to chose to wear a helmet or not because it only effects them. That couldn't be farther from the truth. We pay for it in Millions of dollars. Insurance keeps going up for cars, bikes, and health. Also, when someone crashes and turns into a veggie, who do you think pays the bills? Again, the choice of one person to not wear a helmet effects everyone else.
pout-slayer
Tried not to post on this, but had to put my 2 cents in.Redline if your going to use the amount of money saved as your reason bikers should wear helmets, wouldn't it make more sense to have all people that ride in cars wear helmets. The fact is that many more people sustain head injuries in car accidents than bikes accidents.I never could understand this line of reasoning. Hemlock
There's always room for a little political chit chat here, as long as we keep 'er fun. While were on the topic of adding .02 I may as well add mine. We all have lots to live for, right? (family, friends, fishing ) Why not increase the chances of living for that by buckling up or putting on a helmet? I know my son wouldn't be happy if I went for a ride through the windshield. In law enforcement training, we watched numerous videos with crash test dummies...you know the type. After watching the dummies absolutely buckle into the dash/steering wheel and fly through the windshield, the "inconvienience" of putting on the seatbelt didn't seem so bad. I don't get angry when I see someone riding down the freeway at 75 mph in crowded traffic without a helmet, on their hog, but I do get angry seeing kids not buckled up in their car seat, or even worse being held in the front seat in front of an airbag. That has nothing to do with anything. Do some research, really, it might shine some light on it for you. More people are injured in a car because A LOT more people drive cars, thus more accidents. If you look at the % of injuries and death in a car compared to a motorcycle, the motorcycle is much, much worse. A car has a cage built to protect you, airbags front and side now. They have special crumple zones and so on. A bike has NOTHING. This is simple logic that people who refuse to wear helemts just can't understand. dirtking
I searched for a web site - most only covered the US - I didn't want to get turned around at the border - Figured I would ask the question here because if no one else knew Hemlock would. Going to Sioux Narrows this weekend - it is looking pretty wet for the weekend though - If I make it there and back - I will post my fishing results

dirtking
I am meeting a group that got there yesterday at Tomahawk. We are going back in August and staying at White Birch - My favorite resort up there. We usually make it up once or twice more through the year (winter) and stay at the motel. Redline
I have been staying at White Birch for about 12 years now. Great place and great people. Pat and Marnie do an excellent job of running the place. My group always goes up on fathers day weekend and every year my cousin brings his accordian and plays at the bar down there. I will be at White Birch next week! Can't wait! Let me know how the fishing is.
Hemlock
Not sure if you heard or not, but no more hotel. (Maple Leaf) Out of business, sorry I do not have a whole lot more information. Is everyone ok with helmets....or lack there of? For a while there, I thought I was going to have to roll up my moderator sleeves and start the editing process. (I've yet to edit a post on this forum) Keep up the good work....
Redline
Its too bad about the Maple Leaf. Last year we had 25 guys and we always stay at the largest Cabin at White Birch, but couldn't fit everyone so some of us stayed at the Maple Leaf. This year some will be staying at Shangri La. Hemlock, do you know much about Shangri La? I know its a few miles south of Sioux Narrows.
