Lower Unit housing repair or replacement

ricqik

Question

The large downward shark fin on my yammy is bent and somewhat shaved. Does anybody know a a place that repairs this kind of stuff or do I have to get a new unit? I bought the boat used and didn't see this till weeks after. I was looking at some new ones and they're tunning up in the $$grands. A repair is first choice and a replacement second.

You don't have to replace case, too expensive, there are many shops that can weld a new one in place. Check with some dealers, or sometimes propeller shops do them.

The big upside down shark fin in front of the prop. If you hit anything this would hit first. Looks like the previous owner smacked something hard and bent the middle section to the starboard side and he filed it down and repainted it. Almost did a perfect job at hiding the damage. I didn't notice this till just recently when I was cleaning the water intake on the lower unit and looked closely and noticed it wasn't aligned straight.
