Which digital camera

anchor man

Question

I'm looking for a decent digital camera for all purpose use, but will use it a lot in the boat. I'd like to spend $300 or less. Anyone have any suggestions on which ones are good quality for that price range?

Thanks much

Don't want to start an argument, because this is all about opinions...

However, there are very good AA rechargeable batteries (the NiMH type) available so one does not have to keep buying alkaline or lithium AA and throwing them away. The NiMH batteries can be recharged hundreds of times just like the proprietary battery packs AND are much cheaper to have a second set for backup and or replacement.

If you like the very small cameras such as the Canon S300 you will probably have no choice as these compact cameras generally use only the proprietary battery packs. The packs are around $40 each for genuine Canon. You can get will-fit packs about half the price but from direct experience, Caveat Emptor. We still have the original Canon battery for one where I work that is going strong, but the second (backup) battery we got was a will-fit and we've had to replace it a couple of times because the ones we've had just will not hold a good charge after a while.
