Catfish Lake Question

Do some research on the site here.. there is a lot more to catfishing than stink bait. Im not sure where Chatfield is.. Most of the major rivers in the state have a population of catfish.. lakes are very limited.

Being rigged properly will greatly increase your chance for success right from the start. There may be someone in your area that knows of some good fishing locations for you to try, and its usually not impossible to find an open boat seat, or someone shore angling that doesnt mind taking someone new along... The best experience you can get is from other experienced fishermen... It sually gives up a spot or 2 also... and its a good way to get started properly.

For rivers, you might have some success fishing the lower portions of the Root River near Lanesboro.

Try fishing the deeper holes or trees that have fallen into the river. Areas where the current speeds up can also be good.

A simple sinker rig laid still on the bottom with a 12 to 24 inch leader is the standard technique for rivers. Stink bait will work but I can almost bet that cut pieces of sucker, crawlers or chicken liver will out produce it.

Lake Zumbro and a little further north Lake Byllesby are good bets for cats on a lake.

If you have a boat, find the breaks near deeper water and look for schools of cats on the sonar. Lindy rigs with the same kind of baits for river will work well as well as slip bobbers.

If you are a shore angler, I would try below the dams on these lakes. Fish the current edges and eddys.

Hope this helps a little....
