I was on Trout Lake off of Lake Vermilion last weekend with 8 other guys and we came up with a question that none of us could answer... We had 22 walleye in the cooler and were going out fishing again. A few of the guys were going to stay back to get dinner ready for the evening when we brought up the question, if the game warden stops at the site with 2 guys in it, are they going to be fined for over the limit of walleye? We didn't want to take the risk so everyone went out for the evening bite. I know that you can "party fish" as long as you are in the same boat, but can the fish be all in one cooler at the campsite? If it is illegal, then, if we baged the fish into limits with name, address and fishing license numbers on the bags in the cooler, is that legal? Feel free to clear the smoke for me, I am unsure and don't want a fine in the future!

As long as the fish in the cabin are labeled with the person's name, address and license number and have a patch of skin left on them (or be packaged by a licensed fish packer), the people in the cabin should be okay. At least that was the way it was explained to me by a friend of mine that owns a resort.

Yep.. fish must be labeled if left in someone else's possesion, the same rules apply to transporting the fish... for example.. if 3 guys were fishing for a day and kept a limit(18) and the fish were transported in a vehicle that there was not an ample amount of licensed people to cover a possesion limit.. the extra fish must be labeled.. name, license(dnr#), adress, etc.
