dwag70
I just started collecting some of these.. Have mainly got them from family and friends that have not got a use for them. I am sure some of you guys collect these too.. My question is where do you normally find them or do you just bid on them on the action sites? And how do you catalog them.. I have started to use Digital pics then burning them too a CD to keep space on my hard drive.. Any one ever think about insurance on these !!! FOOT
I have quite a few older fishing lures. I tend to specialize in the wooden ones but have a couple metal and plastic ones a swell.Make sure you keep the box they came in, if you still have them. That will increase their worth.I have been lucky in finding them at garage sales, small antique shops, auctions (on-line and in person), bait shops etc: I find the bait shop ones go a little higher but was lucky enough to get several when a bait shop closed up by Grand Rapids.I don't really catalog them but I have taken photos of them and keep the photos in a safe deposit box. I am now video taping them so I can include a narative.I checked with my insurance agent and he said as long as their combined value doesn't exceed $1000 I don't need a rider on my policy. I'd check with your agent to see what you need as they tend to be different.Good luck in your collecting. I enjoy mine a lot. I have them displayed, hanging on an old piece of minnow net, in my rec room. It's fun to talk about them when you have a party, etc:.You can purchase a catalog of old lures which will probably give you a value of what they are "worth". Just remember, the value they quote is the ideal price not what you should pay or even what you should expect to get paid if you happen to sell any of your collection. I sell only my duplicates but have not tried to sell any on HSOList as yet.Good luck.
