0 Fisher Dave
I used to have a pair that were about 4' tall that were solid PVC(post type).. I loved them.. not so much for positioning the boat(did help in the night hours), but they were great for trailering, and especially backing the trailer into the lake when the boat wasnt on it.I wouldnt have the type that are metal on the inside, and PVC out.. they take some pretty good hits in rough water trailer loading.. I would thing the others would bend before long. There are many types out there, you can get them with bunks, rollers, etc.. I would assume the carpeted bunk type would be the best because they dont havy any *give* IF you want them strictly for the purpose of being sure your boat settles on center. 0 Fishing Junky
Thanks for the response Dave. I was thinking about the carpeted bunk models, but was wondering if they scratch the side of the boat at all? They definitly look like a decent setup though. Thanks again, Junky....... 0 Fisher Dave
Anything rubbing against a painted surface is going to show in some way or another in time... whether its a year, or 25 years, I couldnt tell you.. but there will eventually be an effect. Many new trailers are rigged with these on new boats.. if rigged properly, I dont think it would be anything that would show too soon if they are using them on a brand new boat... setting them up properly would be important.. dont exactly want them to squeeze the boat constantly while trailering. 0 nthomps66
I just installed a pair of carpetted bunk guides-ons from the Cabelas catalog. I used them this weekend and they seemed to work very well. I have a 2004 Fishhawk 1750 with Karavan trailerI had to get creative to make them work though. I used hockey puck spacers to get the bunks closer to the boat. There is now about a 1" gap between the bunk and boat on each side.Anyway- Cabelas has two pages of guides to look at.
0 Fishing Junky
Thanks for your thoughts you guys. Just ordered a pair of bunk guides from Cabelas. Hell, it's only a boat, if it shows a little wear after awhile, so be it. Good fishin' to ya guys this summer. Junky....
0 Fishing Junky
I installed the bunk guide ons after a few minor adjustment to the angle of the guides, (heat and bend), and they work real nice. Put the boat on the trailer after fishing today, and it couldn't have gone on straighter if you tried. Thanks for the advise, Junky.......
0 Fisher Dave
Im glad to hear it worked out for you... I dont care to make it more work than it needs to be to trailer either.. I am very good about getting the boat on strait.. but everyone has bad days.. My guide-ons are going back on just for trailer visibility when the boat isnt on it.. its nice to have something to see.. doesnt hurt when loading up the boat at night either.
